I Had Coffee With Your Avatar

Now that the world has gone bonkers, I think gaining and winning friends by the present generation sits quite fine and okeydokey with me.  Generation now would consider that the minimum requirements for at least two human beings to be considered as friends is that they have to have a photo together posted on social media or that one has clicked accept a Facebook invite by the other.

Though I am truly glad that I am not part of this peculiar “friendship” scheme.  I think I would still recognize and accept such a modern way of developing friendships for the mere fact that such scheme and pattern is positive.

It is totally different from the way how friendship develops and flourish during my young though not so vibrant time.  Friendship development and occurrences then were face-to-face, non-tech, unknowing, fluid, extemporaneous and does not require having an avatar.

my present globally recognized avatar! hi friends!

I am not saying that those that I connect with via social media or the world-wide-web as not friends.  They are indeed!  But it could have been more enhanced if I happen to at least smell or touch these new found friends.  Yeah, I am a touchy person (and not a smelly one)!  And I would have love to have at least a coffee or dinner with these new found comrades.

Case in point are the new found friends I developed while writing and posting on this blog.  These are the amazing and beautiful people who cared to read, like, comment and/or follow the Nengkoy blog.  Conversing via the comment sections and responding to emails, believe it or not, has been very fascinating and enriching experiences.  Some don’t even have a face since their avatar would be a painting, a cartoon character or the photo of their favorite pet yet I would consider them as my modern virtual friends.

And since, like what I have said, the world has gone bonkers, you may not know it, but I have had a coffee with your avatar in the past few days! Hahaha!

Finding new friends is positive and in the affirmative, whichever way a person achieves it would be so fine with me.

Feels So Good To Blog Again

While I am still blown away by the surprise and generosity of master drawer Sam of .Am I Doing This Right?, let me take this amazing opportunity to also thank other bloggers who praised and commended my blogging.

write-up by Karthigeyan at WitfulMadrasi blog when he nominated Nengkoy Blog for the Vincent Ehindero Blogger Award

These simple praise and comments of approval melts my heart.  These peeps seem to fortify that I made the right decision of getting back to blogging and write again.  These co-bloggers don’t realize how glad I am when I read their positive messages and comments.

I know blogging is difficult and needs some massive knack for writing (which a lot of high-paying vloggers don’t seem to possess) let me express my deep gratitude to my co-bloggers!  Keep the world wide web interesting to see and read!

Thank you very much and a heartwarming applause to all of you!

Will Facebook Miss Me

New York City is considered the modern mecca of a modern urban traveler.  It is known that if you are a connoisseur in the scene of world travel, you have actually not traveled at all in case you have not been to the city that never sleeps.

one popular photo i posted in my FB during my 1st NY visit

I will be in New York City next week and this is going to be my second time in that juggle city.  During my first stay, I, like any other millennial and pretend-millennial (like me) bombarded my Facebook account with multitudes of photos of various spots, points and sites of New York.  And like any other travels I had in other parts of the world, these Facebook-posted photos earned me swarms of likes, wows and hearts which of course brought to my foolish pleasant feelings of happiness.

I however will post some tough challenge upon myself.  This time around, I will not post anything about my NY travel on Facebook page.  I would nevertheless continue on writing on my WordPress blog about it and as an alternative to such deprivation the only social media that I am gonna use will be my unpopular and often ignored Instagram account.

Unlike Facebook, in which I got more than a thousand friends and followers I only got less than 300 followers in IG.  Most of them are IG users whose intention is to increase their number of followers, i.e.,  they would follow you just for the sake that they be followed back and later in the week will unfollow you after they noticed that you have followed them already.  And my other IG followers are either inactive or my close relatives.

One deviation though to this challenge is that I will allow friends I caught-up with or new friends I will meet during this travel to tag me in their own FB page.  And second, I will not totally stop viewing and liking FB posts of my dear FB friends.  To be clear, I will just not post anything about this NY travel on FB.

With this challenge in mind, will my FB friends try to seek my blog posts and increase my WordPress viewership?  Will there be an increase in my Instagram followers who are sincere and authentic? Will my Facebook followers who hates my posts gets happier?  Would it end up to the signs of the Second Coming of Jesus?  Will it kick me out of ketosis? Would it make me anything less of the person I am now after this challenge?  Can I survive it? Will Facebook Miss Me?

An Okay Eight Years

This blog has not put healthy food on the tables of poor families neither has it placed a roof on the top of their heads.  Others actually find these writings a big BS. But I am proud to convey that this blog today has been running for eight years already.

It initially ran for three years under Friendster (an extinct tacky social media site) and then transferred to WordPress.com five years ago.

I know that the pieces of writing that I have done for the last eight years are just but okay.  Those are not remarkable neither awesome posts.  But being okay is still remarkably and awesomely fine.  Besides, not all people had the chance to chronicle their life’s snippets, encounters and experiences the way I just did for the past 8 years.

I really don’t know if this blog is aligned with my soul’s purpose and how this blog will be to me in the future.  It has never been that clear.  Although I wish it would, I am not expecting such vividness will come that soon.

But what is so imperative about this blog is that it has been a truthful expression of myself.  It may not have maxed out my being a human being, but nevertheless, this blog has displayed a segment of who I am, what I am and why I am.

To those who found time reading my posts in the last 8 years, let me convey a massive thanks. Though there will still be a lot of spiky attitude, let me promise that in the future, there would be more gratitude.
